Located just a stroll from Rutland Water we like to encourage our guests to help us become more green.  It isn’t easy to explore the countryside without a car and we aren’t suggesting guests should go completely car free, but it really is a beautiful area for cycling so we offer secure storage for bikes, they can also be easily hired from Rutland Water.  A short stroll down the Lane brings you to the footpath to Rutland Water over the styles, or walk to top of the Lane and take the road to Sykes Lane.  There are a wealth of outdoor activities to enjoy from sailing, climbing, walking, birdwatching, fishing, windsurfing, riding etc...

 

The White Horse Inn a two minute stroll from the house is the village pub typically English and offers food and a variety of well kept real ales, in fact all over the county there are delightful pubs and village inns offering high quality food. The Kings Arms at Wing, with it's bar dating back to 1649, and the food of such high quality.  Our village store, a mere stroll from the B&B, provides the usual daily newspapers.

 

A 10 minute drive away is the beautiful Georgian stone town of Stamford with shops, pubs and restaurants, the Elizabethan House of Burghley which is where the Burghley Horse Trials are held every September.

 

A few miles away are the picturesque towns of Oakham and Uppingham both well known for their public schools, they are blessed with a wide range of antique and speciality shops, cosy cafes, bars and restaurants, all towns hold weekly markets.  There is also a train station in Oakham with links to Peterborough, Melton Mowbray, Leicester, Birmingham and Stanstead Airport.

 

For a relaxing break in the countryside, without the traffic or the queues, come to Rutland.  You’ll be surrounded by open countryside, big skies and wildlife, the Lanes are awash with wild flowers in the Spring and Summer, and Autumn brings brilliant golds, bronzes and reds as the countryside prepares for Winter.
